At the end of August, the LoRaWAN network, owned by Micro-Link, was implemented at Living Lab Koprivnica. The network covers the Living Lab area of the already known Lenisce neighbourhood and the narrow urban area of the city of Koprivnica. The new IoT network primary goal is to demonstrate smart lighting solutions within the Living Lab test fields, I.e., control and management data transmission between luminaires and a central location. LoRaWAN is a media access control (MAC) protocol for wide area networks. It is designed to allow low-powered devices to communicate with Internet-connected applications over long range wireless connections. The advantages of a LoRAWAN are low power with a long range coverage area, excellent radio signal penetration within the facility, and a very high level of data security.
It is planned to use the existing IoT infrastructure (implemented LoRaWAN city network) to test other smart city services in the form of various pilot projects of innovative solutions. In the future, the LoRaWAN IoT network can be used for all urban essential services and resource management. The same communication infrastructure can be used for smart parking, smart waste management, smart meter reading (remote sensing of energy products and water), monitoring of the noise level and air quality, in addition to smart city lighting.
We invite all interested companies to join and become our Living Lab partners. It is possible to select one of the remaining test fields to test new features of public lighting, or to demonstrate innovativeness in the form of smart metering or smart city solutions.
